Road Cycling Skills


Date: Monday June 15, 2020
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: TBD
Who: All female riders, 11 years old and up are welcome
Cost: Free for Velodonnas Club members

What to Bring:

  • HELMET – MANDATORY. No helmet = no riding
  • Road bike or road-worthy bike
  • Water bottle
  • Granola bar or something like that
  • Spare tube, tire lever, hand pump – whatever you normally carry in case of a flat. Don’t know what to do in case of a flat? We’re gonna change that.
  • Emergency contact & medical (if app.) information (e.g. card in your pocket, Road ID wristband etc.)
  • Your enthusiasm for learning new skills, improving skills you already have, challenging yourself, encouraging others

Skills We’ll Cover:

  • The Basics – pedal stroke, braking, shifting, getting out of the saddle, cornering
  • Confident Pack Riding – we’re going to get comfortable with bike & body contact, touching wheels, clearing obstacles etc.
  • Surviving a Group Ride – drafting essentials, pacelines & echelon practice, group communication

Mountain Bike Skills


Date: Friday July 3, 2020
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Bison Butte. We’ll meet in the parking lot on east side of Cabela’s (580 Sterling Lyon Pkwy)
Who: All female riders, 11 years old and up are welcome
Cost: Free for Velodonnas Club members

What to Bring:

  • HELMET – MANDATORY. No helmet=no riding
  • Trail-worthy bike, flat bar, off-road type bike. Suspension not needed but no “beach cruisers” please
  • Water bottle
  • Granola bar or something like that
  • Spare tube, tire lever, hand pump – whatever you normally carry in case of a flat. Don’t know what to do in case of a flat? We’re gonna change that.
  • Emergency contact & medical (if app.) information (e.g. card in your pocket, Road ID wristband etc.)
  • Your enthusiasm for learning new skills, improving skills you already have, challenging yourself, encouraging others

Skills We’ll Cover:

  • The Basics – pedal stroke, braking, shifting, getting out of the saddle
  • Wheel lifts – clearing obstacles
  • Climbing & Descending with confidence
  • Slow speed maneuvering & high speed cornering
  • Sand riding and more…

Riders will be split into groups based on previous experience/skill level


Cyclocross Skills


Date: Saturday August 29, 2020
Time: 10:00 AM
Location: Whittier Park. Meet in Fort Gibraltar parking lot or picnic shelter.
Who: All female riders, 11 years old and up are welcome
Cost: Free for Velodonnas Club members

What to Bring:

  • HELMET – MANDATORY. No helmet=no riding
  • Cyclocross, gravel or mountain bike
  • Water bottle
  • Granola bar or something like that
  • Spare tube, tire lever, hand pump – whatever you normally carry in case of a flat. Don’t know what to do in case of a flat? We’re gonna change that
  • Emergency contact & medical (if app.) information (e.g. card in your pocket, Road ID wristband etc.)
  • Your enthusiasm for learning new skills, improving skills you already have, challenging yourself, encouraging others

  • Mounts & dismounts
  • Carrying the bike
  • Starts – bike/body contact
  • Hurdles and run ups
